Piengchan Sonthayanon
Senior Scientist
I worked as a senior scientist at Microbiology unit, Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) in Thailand since 2003. I am also an assistant Professor at Dept. of Molecular Tropical Medicine and Genetics, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University.
My research focuses on molecular-based diagnosis of scrub typhus and other tropical diseases including Leptospirosis, melioidosis, non-typhoidal salmonellosis. I am also interested in molecular epidemiology to study the population genetic and evolution of bacteria. The on-going project aims to find the molecular marker for rapid diagnosis of tropical diseases such as leptospirosis and scrub typhus by using proteomics, bioinformatics and machine learning.
