Tak Province Community Ethics Advisory Board (T-CAB) members at a meeting in Mae Sot, Thailand, on the Thai-Myanmar border. Established in 2009 and made up local community members, T-CAB guides SMRU research activities and works to better understand local's understanding of research activities in their community.

Tak Province Community Ethics Advisory Board (T-CAB), Mae Sot, Thailand

Coordinated by Napat Khirikoekong and founded in 2009, T-CAB has 13 members from diverse backgrounds, who help to protect the rights and wellbeing of community members and highlight their communities’ health needs.

The Young Person Advisory Group (YPAG), Angkor Hospital for Children, Siem Reap, Cambodia

YPAG, coordinated by Sreymom Pol and Phana Leab, is made up of children 10 to 15 years old. It has conducted patient satisfaction surveys, performed plays and addressed social issues.

Fishy Clouds, Bangkok

MORU, with innovative Bangkok-based B-floor Theatre group, organized Fishy Clouds, a puppet theatre performance on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Village Drama Against Malaria in Cambodia

Led by Nou Sanann, Village Drama Against Malaria involves local children and adults to create lively community theatre that raises awareness of malaria prevention and vaccination in rural provinces.

Forum theatre in Myanmar

Led by Myo Maung Maung Shwe, in collaboration with the Yangon-based Art for All theatre group, ‘Fever Treatment and Antibiotic Use’ was shown in Hlaing Thar Ya township.

Science Cafés

Coordinated by Phetsavanh Chanthavilay, MORU Lao Unit LOMWRU organised two Vientiane Science Cafés. COMRU organised seven AHC Science Cafés, coordinated by Sreymon Pol and Phana Leab

Pint of Science Thailand, Bangkok

Pint of Science is the world’s biggest annual science festival. Bioethics & Engagement organised the Pint of Science festival for the 2nd year. A total of 18 talks were held in Thailand in 2018

Global Health by the Pint, New Orleans

Phaik Yeong Cheah and Lina Moses (University of Tulane) organized the first Global Health by the Pint event, alongside the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Meeting, 29- 31 Oct 2018.

AMR Dictionary

Direk Limmathurotsakul and colleagues developed an AMR Dictionary. Now available in four languages,  it can be accessed via an online app or an open-access downloadable PDF.

Capacity-building

The department supports researchers through MORU Network Public Engagement Bursaries, and by providing training opportunities like the ‘Three Minute Thesis Competition’.

Parenting for Lifelong Health for Young Children in Thailand

The University of Oxford, UNICEF Thailand, and the Thai Ministry of Public Health worked together to promote lifelong health and well-being and preventing violence against children through evidence-based parenting skills in Thailand
