Professor Paul Newton was announced new Distinguished International Fellow at the ASTMH Annual Meeting Awards Ceremony on the 17th November. This distinction formally recognizes individuals who have made eminent contributions to a particular aspect of tropical medicine or hygiene.

Professor of Tropical Medicine and Head of the Medicine Quality Research Group, Paul Newton was appointed Head of WWARN Antimalarial Quality Group in 2010. He was the founding Director of the Lao-Oxford-Mahosot-Wellcome Trust Research Unit (LOMWRU) in the Microbiology Laboratory of Mahosot Hospital in Vientiane, Laos, from 2000 to 2019 and now works based from Oxford.
