Prakaykaew Charunwatthana
Senior Researcher, Malaria Clinical Team
Thai clinician and Research Physician Prakaykaew (Jib) Charunwatthana has been a member of the Malaria Department at MORU since 2002.
Jib’s current focus is clinical research of malaria in Thailand and Bangladesh, with a focus on pathophysiology and treatment both in uncomplicated and severe malaria.
Apart from malaria research, Jib is also studies vector-borne diseases, such as scrub typhus, dengue and chikungunya with her master’s and doctoral students at Mahidol University. Jib is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University.
Jib’s previous research work included examining the efficacy of antimalarial treatments for P. vivax in Thailand and clinical studies on adjunctive treatments for malaria such as N-acetylcysteine, levamisole and Sevuparin.
Jib was PhD student under the supervision of Prof Arjen M Dondorp and graduated in 2007 from Mahidol University. In addition to working at MORU, Jib is also a staff lecturer at the Department of Clinical Tropical Medicine, in Mahidol University’s Faculty of Tropical Medicine.
