Wellcome trust researchers receive Prince Mahidol Award


Professor Nick White (right), Chairman of MORU and the South-east Asia Clinical Research Network, has been given an award in recognition of his "outstanding and exemplary contribution to the advancement of the world's medical and public health services". The award consists of a medal, a certificate and a sum of $50 000 (£31 000). Professor Kevin Marsh (left), Director of the MORU's sister research unit in Kenya (KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme) also receives the award for his equally important work.

The Prince Mahidol Award Foundation was established in Thailand on 1 January 1992 in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Prince Mahidol of Songkla. The Foundation is under royal patronage, with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn as current president.

The Awards were presented on 26th January 2011 in a ceremony presided over by the King and Queen of Thailand.
