The current hospital based research projects include:

  1. The causes of community-acquired septicaemia and the drug-resistance patterns of the responsible organisms and how the epidemiology of septicaemia varies in Laos and through time.
  2. The causes of blood culture and malaria smear negative fever amongst children and adults admitted to Mahosot Hospital
  3. The causes of jaundice and hepatitis at Mahosot Hospital
  4. The causes of central nervous system infections at Mahosot Hospital
  5. Randomised, open, comparative clinical trials of 3 days doxycycline, 7 days doxycycline and 3 days azithromycin in the treatment of uncomplicated murine typhus and scrub typhus
  6. A randomised, open, comparative clinical trial of 3 days ofloxacin versus 3 days azithromycin in the treatment of uncomplicated typhoid fever
  7. A case control study examining risk factors for infantile beri beri
  8. An examination of the incidence of cryptic thiamine deficiency amongst infants admitted to Mahosot Hospital
