We have studied severe sepsis (including melioidosis and staphylococcal disease) since 1986 in our permanently manned microbiology research site in the large provincial hospital in Ubon Ratchathani, Northeast Thailand. We have two clinical study sites in Cambodia studying malaria (Pailin) and clinical epidemiology (Siem Reap). Since 2002 we have studied severe malaria at Chittagong Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh, at Ispat Hospital in Rourkela, India, and in Beira, Mozambique. We have a vibrant and productive network of other collaborative study sites throughout Asia and Africa.
