Plans and Objectives

Our main objective is to continue testing new effective and safe therapies for treating P. falciparum malaria and to monitor the efficacy of the drugs currently used in the area. We will also continue to investigate the genetics of Plasmodium falciparum to support the monitoring of antimalarial drugs resistance in collaboration with the MalariaGEN.

Using baseline data obtained so far, specific trials are being designed to study the pathophysiology of anaemia in malaria and the roles of haemoglobinopathies and G6PD deficiency in the paediatric population.

We have also planned to liaise with the Microbiology Department at MORU to begin investigating non-malarial causes of febrile illnesses affecting the population in the area.
