Wellcome Trust researchers to receive Prince Mahidol Award

Professor Nick White, Chairman of MORU and the South-east Asia Clinical Research Network, has been given an award in recognition of his "outstanding and exemplary contribution to the advancement of the world's medical and public health services". The award consists of a medal, a certificate and a sum of $50 000 (£31 000). The results of the AQUAMAT study were announced at the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) Conference in Atlanta on 6th November 2010, with the full paper available for download from the Lancet website from 8th November (see links below). 2010 Canada Gairdner Global Health Award

The 2010 Canada Gairdner Awards honour groundbreaking medical research behind cancer, epilepsy and heart disease and malaria treatments. This year, seven recipients will each receive a $100,000 prize, the foundation announced Tuesday. Over the past 50 years, one in four winners have gone on to become Nobel laureates. The awards drive innovation, said Dr. Nicholas White, who will receive the 2010 Canada Gairdner Global Health Award recognizing individual contributions to health in the developing world.
